A little bit about Patrick…
Almost 26 years ago, I earned my pilot wings. Driven by a quest to see the world from new perspectives, I quickly realized that being airborne perfectly complements my passion behind the camera. I still remember my first flights vividly. Learning to fly here in Humboldt, we would climb out to the west directly over Wigi (Humboldt Bay) as the afternoon sunlight filled the cabin. Below, the western light sharply and gloriously illuminated the tidal patterns.
I present these photographs as an intersection of art and science. To balance the artistic side, I like to bank into the abstract, bringing the unexpected colors and geomorphic patterns of the bay to your walls. While a bit of the real world might be overlooked within these frames, the science of the natural world is right there too—for instance, the vibrant colors you see are often blooms of billions of oxygen-producing diatoms building tiny glass houses of silica. So I hope these photographs reveal a bit of science as you delight in the symphony of the natural world revealed from above.
My work is printed and framed to archival standards and assembled in my studio. The prints are a traditional silver halide Type C photographic process using Fuji Crystal [confirm exact paper name] and a digital enlarger. The glazing is high-clarity UltraVue® UV70 Glass.
