Born in Southern California, I moved to Arcata in 1988 and graduated from HSU with an art degree in 95.  I love living on the North Coast surrounded by water and it is a reoccurring theme in my work.   I am fascinated by the patterns that occur when light and shadow hit the surface.  To capture the essence of how nature feels is always a goal.

 I have two styles of painting I fluctuate between.  Realism (which is my background) and Expressive semi-Abstract.  My practice is filled with exploring to see what resonates with me.  Sometimes I enjoy making energetic marks, painting intuitively and follow what the painting tells me.  Other times, I feed my soul more quietly.  I like the challenge of recreating the color in a sunset, emulate the stillness in the sky or play with reflection.  I love taking in the beauty that surrounds us here and to paint it well will be my forever passion.
