The Artist Clay is the medium of choice for me because it is so malleable and so forgiving. I often have to see something materially before I can tell if it is having the impact I want and clay is the most changeable of materials. I make very few functional items and most of the things I do make have some kind of a representational fragment. And often include parts of the human figure. That may be because I'm so interested in the way human beings respond to each other and this world around them. Often, you will find social commentary in my pieces. I use fragments and distortion because I believe that fragments of a piece of art can stimulate thought processes and feelings. My goal is to create works that will evoke feelings and memories in the viewer that may bridge the gap between the private concerns of individuals and the universality of the human experience. My hope is that my choice of form, subject matter, and sometimes my sense of humor will reflect itself in such a way as to meet my goals and present to the viewer with a visually stimulating or interesting result.
